December 15, 2024: Actor Varun Dhawan recently expressed his admiration for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and shared his excitement about Khan’s special role in the upcoming film Baby John. During a press conference in New Delhi, Dhawan described his experience of working with Khan as “wonderful,” praising the megastar not just for his star power but also for his magnanimity as a person.
Salman Khan, who is set to make a special appearance in Baby John, plays a unique character that is completely original and crafted specifically for him by director Atlee. Dhawan was careful not to reveal too much about Khan’s role but hinted that it would have a significant and lasting impact. “The impact of his role will be long-lasting,” Dhawan said, emphasizing how special and distinct the character is.
Baby John is an adaptation of Atlee’s 2016 Tamil film Theri, which starred Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The film features a stellar cast, including Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav in key roles. This film also marks Keerthy Suresh’s debut in Hindi cinema. Dhawan, who plays a father in the film, opened up about how his role resonates with him personally, especially now that he is a father to his daughter.
Dhawan spoke emotionally about the transformation he underwent after becoming a father, saying, “When I became a father, I recalled my mother’s teachings and realized how I could ever be rude to her after seeing how my wife, Natasha Dalal, cares for our daughter.” He also referenced a powerful line from the film, “Haath laga ke bata mere beti ko” (Just try to touch my daughter), noting how deeply he feels the sentiment in real life as a protective father.
The actor also shared some insights into the film’s themes, focusing on parenting, women’s safety, and a significant case inspired by real events. He clarified that Baby John isn’t a scene-by-scene remake of Theri but a creative adaptation with changes in geography and story angles, designed to make the narrative more relevant for today’s audience.
Action Sequences and Martial Arts: Dhawan, who has always been passionate about action films, mentioned that Baby John would showcase some highly creative action sequences. He revealed his obsession with martial arts, saying that fans of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) would notice his flying knee moves, while some wrestling-inspired moves would also be featured, adding to the film’s diverse action style. Dhawan expressed his desire to continue doing action films but to approach each one in a unique way.
Film’s Music and Cameo: The excitement for Baby John has been building, especially with the recent launch of the song Bandobast, composed and sung by Thaman S alongside Mame Khan, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil. The song has contributed to the growing anticipation surrounding the film’s release.
The recently unveiled trailer of Baby John showcased Dhawan’s versatility, with his portrayal of a police officer, father, and romantic lead. Jackie Shroff appeared menacing as the antagonist, while Wamiqa Gabbi plays a pivotal role. The trailer also featured a surprise cameo from Salman Khan. Although his face was partially obscured by a black cloth, the glimpse of his eyes left a lasting impression, and the actor ended the trailer by wishing everyone, “Merry Christmas” in advance, further fueling excitement for the film.
Directed by A. Kaleeswaran, Baby John is produced by Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee, and Jyoti Deshpande, and is slated for release on December 25. The film is presented by Atlee and Jio Studios, marking it as one of the most anticipated releases of the year. With its mass action, emotional depth, and star-studded cast, Baby John promises to be a festive treat for audiences.
