Varun Dhawan Hits Back at 'Scene-Cutter' Tag
The actor broke his silence on accusations of being a ‘scene-cutter’ and ‘insecure’ during promotions for his latest release, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.
Actor Varun Dhawan has publicly addressed recent online allegations that he is an “insecure” co-star who manipulates screen time, specifically against the backdrop of his multi-starrer film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.
In a recent interview with BBC Asia Network, the actor was directly confronted with the “overly competitive and scene-cutting co-star” label. Before Dhawan could fully respond, his co-star, Janhvi Kapoor, immediately jumped in to defend him, emphatically stating, “He is the last person who would do that.”
Kapoor, who has worked with Dhawan on the newly released rom-com, passionately vouched for his security as an actor. “For the record, I have been in this industry for 6-7 years, worked with enough people, and heard enough stories,” she said. “He is, maybe, one of the only people who is so secure and wise enough to understand that a movie is a collective effort, and so he gets a lot of joy in building other people up.”
The accusations, which reportedly surfaced on the internet and involved co-star Rohit Saraf, were firmly dismissed by both actors.
Varun Dhawan reflected on the nature of online gossip, asserting that he prefers to focus on his work and his relationships. “At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which way narrative swings. I don’t like to pay attention to that,” he stated. “My friendships with my co-stars over the years are a testament to that. I do feel I have a lot of love from my fans who have always stood by me. All around the world, they have always had my back, whether hits or flops.”
Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s latest venture, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, has successfully opened in theatres. News18 Showsha gave the film 3.5 stars, praising the collective performance and the film’s blend of nostalgia and contemporary rhythm.
The review highlighted Dhawan’s flair for the genre: “Varun Dhawan is in his sweet spot; his flair for comedy meets an emotional undercurrent that makes Sunny Sanskari both ridiculous and relatable… reminding us why he continues to be Bollywood’s most bankable romcom star.”
Janhvi Kapoor was also commended for her portrayal of Tulsi, with the review noting that she “glimmers as Tulsi Kumari, capturing both innocence and melancholy with disarming ease… she remains luminous in every frame.”
