Varun Dhawan's First Look From Border 2 To Drop Today
The promotional campaign for the highly-anticipated war sequel launches with Varun Dhawan’s first look, whose role is reportedly inspired by Param Vir Chakra awardee Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya.
November 5, 2025: The countdown to the grand Republic Day weekend release has officially begun. The makers of Border 2 today unveiled the first look of actor Varun Dhawan, marking the start of the extensive promotional campaign for the sequel to the 1997 war classic.
The film, which sees Sunny Deol reprise his iconic role from the original, is slated for a theatrical release on January 23, 2026.
According to sources, the producers, T-Series and J.P. Films, are gearing up for a two-month-long, pan-India promotional drive leading up to the release.
Industry Source: “The makers have planned for a good 2-month promotional campaign… After Varun Dhawan, the Border 2 team will drop Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty’s first looks as well.”
The sequel, directed by Anurag Singh, features a major ensemble cast including Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh, and Medha Rana alongside the lead actors.
While official character details for the new cast members have been closely guarded, reports strongly suggest that Varun Dhawan’s pivotal role is loosely based on Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, PVC. Colonel Dahiya was a Param Vir Chakra recipient celebrated for his exceptional bravery during the 1971 Indo-Pak War—the same conflict that forms the backdrop of the sequel.
The film promises to recapture the intense patriotism of the original, with its tagline: “Hindustan ke liye ladenge… phir ek baar!” (We will fight for Hindustan… once again!), and is expected to include a reimagined version of the iconic song, Sandese Aate Hain.
The film already achieved a major milestone in August when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared its first teaser. Titled ‘Date Announcement Teaser No. 1 – Border 2’, the 1 minute 10 second clip received a U/A 16+ rating.
The teaser is strategically expected to be attached to the theatrical screenings of the highly anticipated action film War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, which hits theaters later this month.
The film faced minor controversy concerning actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh after his film Sardaar Ji 3, featuring a Pakistani actress, skipped its India release. Petitions reportedly called for his removal from the Border 2 cast. However, the producers clarified that replacing Dosanjh was not feasible, as over half of the film had already been shot, citing major financial setbacks. Dosanjh is reportedly set to play the role of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC in the film.
Border 2, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, aims for a grand Republic Day weekend release on January 23, 2026.
