Vicky Kaushal Feels "Honoured" And Expresses Gratitude After PM Modi Applauds 'Chhaava'
February 22, 2025: In a recent speech at the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the historical drama Chhaava for its powerful depiction of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s bravery. The film, starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, has garnered nationwide appreciation for its portrayal of the Maratha ruler.
PM Modi praised Maharashtra’s contribution to both Marathi and Hindi cinema, saying, “Ye Maharashtra aur Mumbai hi hai jisne Marathi filmon ke saath-saath, Hindi cinema ko ye unchai di hai. Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai,” highlighting the widespread popularity of Chhaava. He also credited Shivaji Sawant’s historical Marathi novel Chhava for helping to introduce the story of Sambhaji Maharaj to a larger audience.
Touched by the Prime Minister’s recognition, Vicky Kaushal took to Instagram to share his gratitude, resharing Modi’s post with the caption, “Honoured beyond words! Grateful to Hon. PM Narendra Modi Ji. #Chhaava.” His co-star, Rashmika Mandanna, who plays Yesubai in the film, also expressed her appreciation on social media, writing, “Thank you @narendramodi sir. It’s truly an honour.”
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava has been a box-office success since its release on February 14. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported that the film crossed the Rs 200 crore mark by Thursday, with a significant boost from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti holiday on Wednesday. Adarsh also shared, “200 NOT OUT: CHHAAVA IS SENSATIONAL… RECORD HOLD IN MAHARASHTRA,” as the film entered the Rs 200 crore club, with Maharashtra emerging as its strongest market.
The film, which also stars Akshaye Khanna, continues to captivate audiences, especially in Maharashtra, while seeing increasing footfall in Rajasthan and West Bengal as well.
