To embody the purity of Lord Parashurama, Vicky Kaushal will adopt a sattvic lifestyle after wrapping Love And War, mirroring a spiritual commitment that director Amar Kaushik has already undertaken for the mythological epic.
November 6, 2025: Actor Vicky Kaushal and director Amar Kaushik are taking an extraordinary and deeply respectful approach to the preparation of their ambitious mythological epic, Mahavatar, which casts Kaushal in the lead role of Lord Parashurama.
According to industry reports, the duo has decided to abstain from non-vegetarian food and alcohol as a part of their prep to fully align with the spiritual discipline and purity of the divine warrior-sage.
A Vow of Dedication
Sources close to the production indicate that this lifestyle change is viewed as a necessary commitment to the scale and reverence of the subject matter.
Source Quote: “A film like Mahavatar requires complete focus, and the duo have decided to give it all to make it a pure spectacle for the cinema-going audience. They have decided to quit non-veg food, and will start their prep for the film with a grand pooja ceremony towards the middle of next year.”
While director Amar Kaushik has reportedly already adopted these new habits, Vicky Kaushal will begin his commitment once he wraps up his shooting schedule for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love And War.
Source Quote: “It’s his way of showing respect to the part of Lord Parashurama,” the insider added, emphasizing the actor’s dedication to internalizing the character’s spirit.
This move echoes a similar commitment made by Ranbir Kapoor, Kaushal’s Love And War co-star, who also reportedly adopted a clean, sattvic lifestyle to portray Lord Ram in the upcoming Ramayana trilogy.
The Magnitude of Mahavatar
The film, produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, generated immense curiosity when its first look was released in November last year. Director Amar Kaushik stressed the personal significance of the project, stating it is a “very big responsibility.”
Amar Kaushik: “This film is a very big responsibility for me in my career. It has come from God because this character has been with me since childhood. We used to live next to the Parashuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh and visited it often… I see a lot of purity in [Vicky]. He is the best person to portray this character.”
The shoot for Mahavatar is now expected to begin late next year or in 2027, with the release date now likely pushed to 2028 due to the extensive VFX work and the one-year production schedule required for the epic.
