Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ Declared Tax-Free in Goa After Crossing Rs 200 Crore At Box Office

February 20, 2025: The historical period drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal and Akshaye Khanna, has been declared tax-free in the state of Goa. This decision follows a similar announcement made by the Madhya Pradesh government on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant shared the news on his X account on Thursday, expressing his pleasure in granting Chhaava tax-free status in the state.

Sawant praised the film for highlighting the valor and sacrifice of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire. The movie, which stars Kaushal as Sambhaji Maharaj, explores his courageous battles against the Mughals and Portuguese forces, emphasizing his dedication to “Dev, Desh, and Dharma.” Sawant highlighted the film’s inspirational portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj’s life and sacrifice, calling it an important contribution to showcasing India’s glorious history.

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava has been performing exceptionally well at the box office since its release on February 14. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film crossed the Rs 200 crore milestone on Thursday. Adarsh shared the news on Instagram, calling Chhaava “sensational” and praising its strong performance, especially in Maharashtra. He also mentioned that the film had a remarkable boost due to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti holiday on Wednesday, with the film grossing over Rs 30 crore that day alone.

Maharashtra has emerged as the strongest market for the film, with Rajasthan and West Bengal also seeing increased footfalls. The film, which portrays the legendary story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, features a powerful performance by Kaushal as the Maratha ruler, along with Rashmika Mandanna in a key role.

Chhaava continues to capture the imagination of audiences with its epic story of courage, sacrifice, and the resilience of the Maratha Empire, making a significant impact both critically and commercially.
