Vidaamuyarchi Box Office Collection Day 7: Ajith’s Film Sees Further Drop-To Stream on This OTT Platform

Despite a strong start, the action-thriller’s momentum slows down as it enters its second week

February 13, 2025: Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi Faces Dip After Initial Surge

Ajith Kumar’s latest action-thriller, Vidaamuyarchi, witnessed a 31.94% drop in box office collections on Day 7, following a brief surge in earnings earlier this week. The Magizh Thirumeni directorial, which opened to a massive ₹26 crore in India on February 6, has shown fluctuating trends at the box office, struggling to maintain its initial momentum.

According to Sacnilk.com, the film earned ₹2.28 crore net in India on its seventh day, bringing its total first-week collection to ₹71.30 crore net in the country. Despite being the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025 so far, the box office numbers indicate a slowdown.

Worldwide Collection & Budget

Vidaamuyarchi has amassed ₹117.50 crore gross worldwide within its first six days, with ₹35.40 crore gross from overseas markets and ₹82.10 crore gross from India. However, considering the film’s estimated budget of ₹225–350 crore, it still has a long way to go before reaching profitability.

Film’s Premise & Audience Response

Vidaamuyarchi, an official Tamil remake of the 1997 Hollywood thriller Breakdown directed by Jonathan Mostow, is set in Azerbaijan. The story revolves around a man’s desperate mission to rescue his kidnapped wife from a mysterious criminal group. While the film has received positive responses for Ajith’s performance and action sequences, it has failed to sustain a strong hold at the box office.

OTT Release Update

Amid its theatrical run, Netflix has secured the digital streaming rights for Vidaamuyarchi, as per Filmibeat. The film, originally slated for a Pongal 2025 release, was postponed and finally hit screens in February.

International Reception

Despite its mixed performance in India, the film is gaining traction overseas. Film trade analyst Ramesh Bala noted in a social media post that Vidaamuyarchi crossed 10,000 admissions in France, showing promise in international markets.

With competition from other regional and Bollywood releases, it remains to be seen how Vidaamuyarchi fares in its second week. Will it maintain steady collections, or will it struggle further? Stay tuned for more updates!
