Actor Vijayakanth, the founder-leader of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), passed away in Chennai on Thursday at the age of 71 following a positive COVID-19 test on Thursday. For public homage, his mortal remains are to be transferred from the Koyambedu office to Island Ground, Anna Salai. Vijayakanth’s mortal remains will be kept there today from 6 am to 1 pm. The final rites will be performed in the Koyambedu DMDK office by 4.45 pm, after the mortal remains are again brought there by 1 pm. Actor Sathyaraj and MDMK General Secretary Vaiko paid respect to DMDK Chief Captain Vijayakanth.
Due to a decline in his health, Vijayakanth was admitted to MIOT Hospital in Chennai earlier in November. He spent 14 days under the care of medical professionals due to coughing and throat pain. Vijayakanth, popularly known as “Captain,” has had a prosperous career in the Tamil film industry. Before going into politics, he appeared in 154 films. Vijayakanth brought about revolutionary changes in the South Indian film industry while he was employed at Nadigar Sangam, which was formerly known as the South Indian Artists’ Association (SIAA).
He also represented the constituencies of Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam as a member of the Legislative Assembly twice. In the meantime, Jr. NTR will appear in the Pan-Indian movie “Devara,” which co-stars Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in the key parts. Together with Kiara Advani and Hrithik Roshan, he will also appear in “War 2.” In 2025, “War 2” is scheduled to open in theatres on Independence Day.
