Vinod Khanna’s Secret Health Battles: Wife Reveals He Smoked 40 To 80 Cigarettes A Day
The legendary Vinod Khanna, remembered for his rugged charm and cinematic brilliance, fought a much more private and grueling battle than the public ever realized. Years after his passing in 2017, his wife, Kavita Khanna, has shared a poignant revelation: the actor’s struggle with cancer began as early as 2001, long before the bladder cancer diagnosis that eventually claimed his life.
According to Kavita, Vinod was first diagnosed with lung cancer during a routine checkup in 2001. The diagnosis was attributed to his heavy smoking habit, with Kavita disclosing that the actor smoked between 40 to 80 cigarettes a day.
At the time, Mumbai’s top specialists recommended surgery to remove half of his lung, but the couple sought a different path, turning to their spiritual mentor, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and exploring holistic healing alongside medical consultation.
In a turn of events that Kavita describes as “unbelievable,” the lung cancer seemingly vanished. After spending time practicing Sudarshan Kriya at an ashram in Rishikesh and seeking further opinions in Germany and London, scans showed no trace of the disease. Doctors in London were reportedly baffled by the disappearance of the patches, but the lung cancer never returned.
However, the respite was temporary. In 2010, the actor was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Faced with a grim 25% survival rate through conventional allopathy, Vinod initially opted for Ayurvedic panchkarma therapy. While he experienced a remarkable period of recovery where scans in America showed he was cancer-free, his health eventually began to decline. The iconic star of Amar Akbar Anthony and Qurbani ultimately passed away at the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy that bridged the worlds of superstardom, spirituality, and politics.
