Vishal Dadlani Bids Farewell to Indian Idol After 6 Years: “Time to Make Music Again”

The music composer exits the popular reality show citing a desire for freedom, travel, and a return to full-time music-making

Mumbai, April 8, 2025 — After being a fixture on Indian Idol for six successful seasons, Vishal Dadlani has officially stepped down as a judge on the singing reality show. Sharing a nostalgic video on Instagram, featuring co-judges Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah, the composer announced his departure with heartfelt gratitude.

“Alvida, yaaro. 6 seasons mein jitna mazaa kiya, uss se bhi zyada yaad aayegi,” wrote Dadlani.

In his post, the music director expressed deep appreciation for the show, saying it gave him more love than he could have ever asked for. He clarified that the decision wasn’t driven by controversy but a simple yearning for creative freedom.

“I’m literally only leaving because I want my time back. Can’t stay stuck in Mumbai for 6 months each year,” he wrote.

The 51-year-old added that he’s looking forward to getting back to making music, playing live concerts, and avoiding “putting on makeup” every weekend. He signed off with a shoutout to his music duo Vishal & Shekhar, hinting at a packed musical year ahead.

Vishal Dadlani, known for his work with Shekhar Ravjiani as part of the Vishal-Shekhar duo, has composed iconic tracks for films such as Om Shanti Om, Dostana, Bang Bang, War, Sultan, and Student of the Year.
