The actor-turned-entrepreneur shares how smart branding and fiscal discipline helped build his ₹3,400 crore student loan startup.
December 14, 2024: Vivek Oberoi, best known for his roles in films like Company, Saathiya, and Krrish 3, isn’t just a Bollywood star—he’s also a successful entrepreneur leading a money-lending business valued at a staggering ₹3,400 crore. At a recent event in Mumbai, Vivek revealed how his startup, which provides collateral-free education fee financing, achieved remarkable success by focusing on social impact and innovation.
The startup, built on a B2B network, partners with over 12,000 schools, colleges, and universities, offering zero-interest payment plans to students and families. Speaking about his company’s growth, Vivek said, “We connected directly to 45 lakh customers, families sending children to schools or colleges. That rich data and customer connection led the company’s valuation to almost $400 million (around ₹3,400 crore).”
Vivek credits the success of his venture to his ability to leverage his personal brand authentically. He emphasized how his goal of creating a positive social impact resonated with his vision for the company. “We made zero-interest payment plans work financially while maintaining a strong social impact. That’s what drove the company’s value,” he added.
Interestingly, Vivek shared that he follows strict fiscal discipline in his role as a co-founder. While he enjoys flying first class for personal trips, he opts for economy class when traveling for his business, choosing to sit alongside his team. “Flying economy with my team fosters morale and demonstrates fiscal discipline. It sends a powerful message about teamwork,” Vivek explained.
Balancing life as both an actor and entrepreneur, Vivek Oberoi continues to leave a mark in both industries. He was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s web series Indian Police Force, co-starring Sidharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty.
