‘War 2’ Receives U/A Certificate After CBFC-Mandated Cuts And Voluntary Edits

The much-anticipated Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR starrer has been cleared with a U/A certificate, but only after the board mandated edits to “sensual images” and “inappropriate references.”

August 9, 2025: The action film War 2 from Yash Raj Films, which people have been looking forward to for a long time, will be out in theaters next Friday. But before it comes out in theaters, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has made a number of alterations to the movie, and the production team has also chosen to cut its runtime.

CBFC told the people who made the movie to make edits to both the audio and the video. Some of the alterations were to mute “inappropriate references” in six locations, replace a “obscene” line of dialogue with an authorized one, and get rid of a “obscene” two-second gesture. The board also wanted a 50% decrease in “sensual images,” which meant nine seconds less screen time. People think this edit includes scenes with actress Kiara Advani in a swimsuit.

After these changes, War 2 got a U/A 16+ rating on August 6. The movie was originally 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 49 seconds long.

Later, the War 2 team went to the CBFC on their own to ask them to cut the movie even more. The directors cut the movie’s running time to 2 hours, 51 minutes, and 44 seconds, which is more than eight minutes less than it was before. Sources say that the team decided to speed up the movie even though the CBFC had not asked for these further cuts. There were no more requests or revisions to the action scenes.

War 2 is the follow-up to the hit movie War from 2019 and is part of the YRF Spy Universe. Ayan Mukerji directed the movie, which stars Hrithik Roshan as Major Kabir Dhaliwal. Jr. NTR makes his Bollywood debut as Vikram, a character who would fight with Kabir over their different ideas of patriotism. Kavya Luthra is played by Kiara Advani. The movie will come out in theaters all across the world on August 14.
