The iconic singer, who is widely respected for his contributions to the music industry, took a moment to address a fan who rudely demanded that he sing in Kannada during the show.

In a now-viral clip, Sonu Nigam shared his deep respect for Kannada songs and the people of Karnataka, stating that he has always embraced the state’s rich musical heritage. He mentioned, “I have sung songs in all languages. But the best songs that I have sung in my life are Kannada songs.” He emphasized his love and respect for the people of Karnataka, saying, “Main aapke beech mein jabbhi aata hoon bohut pyaar se aata hoon. Shows toh roz karte hain humlog, lekin jab kabhi bhi Karnataka mein kahi bhi shows hote hain, hum bohut izzat se aate hain kyuki aap logo ne humein apna pariwaar maan hai” (I always come to you with love, whenever we have shows in Karnataka, we come with great respect because you have accepted us as family).

However, the moment took a turn when he recalled a disrespectful encounter with a young fan who tried to pressure him into performing only in Kannada. “Mujhe accha nahi laga ki waha ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahi hogi, use pehle toh main Kannada gaane gaa raha hoon” (I didn’t like the boy whose age is probably younger than the time I’ve been singing Kannada songs). Nigam expressed his displeasure over the fan’s rude behavior and remarked, “He was so rudely threatening me, ‘Kannada, Kannada’.”

The singer also pointed out that this kind of behavior reflects broader societal issues, referencing the tragic events in Pahalgam and adding, “Yahi kaaran hai, Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na? Yahi kaaran hai jo kar rahe ho, jo kiya tha na abhi? Dekho toh kaun saamne khada hai” (This is the reason for what happened in Pahalgam. This is the reason for what you’re doing now. Look at who is standing in front of you).

Despite the confrontation, Sonu Nigam reiterated his love for Kannada culture and music, stating that he always sings in Kannada whenever requested. He further explained his long-standing connection to the state’s music, mentioning that his career spans several languages including Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and many others.
