Wednesday Season 2 Review: Jenna Ortega is Still the Goth Queen, But Is the Plot Too Convoluted?

Based on the first four episodes, the moody teen returns to Nevermore Academy to solve a new murder mystery but a convoluted plot and overstuffed subplots test the limits of even her deadpan brilliance.

August 6, 2025: Fans have been waiting for the second season of Netflix’s scary show Wednesday, and it’s finally here. People say that the trip is interesting and different.

The first four episodes, which you can now watch online, pick off where the first season left off. Wednesday Addams goes back to Nevermore Academy to learn more about her psychic powers and check out some strange things that are going on.

The review says that Jenna Ortega’s performance is great and that she is “the magnetic black hole at the center” of the play. People say that her portrayal of Wednesday is “unnervingly precise—never too much, never too little,” which is why the series is worth watching even when it has shortcomings. People also like how the show looks, stating it has a “dark, brooding, and deliciously over-styled” look with a lot of gothic grandeur.

The review did suggest that the plot of this season is too full, though. Some people have said that the plot is “clumsily convoluted” at times and that it “does a curtsy when a cold, deadpan stare would do.” Even with these “tonal hiccups,” the show stays on track because to great performances from new cast member Steve Buscemi and old favorites like Emma Myers and Fred Armisen.

The last thing I want to add is that Wednesday Season 2 is “brilliant, brooding, and sometimes exhausting,” just like the main character. The story is ambitious but often off-base, but Ortega’s powerful performance and the show’s great graphics make it entertaining.
