June 5, 2025: Tom Cruise is championing action films — not just his own. Just days before Ana de Armas’ highly anticipated Ballerina (from the world of John Wick) hits theaters on Friday, June 6, Cruise took to social media to hype up what he calls a “weekend of action on the big screen.”

In a photo shared to his Instagram and X accounts on June 4, Cruise posed in front of two film posters — one for Ballerina and another for Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning — alongside director Christopher McQuarrie. He captioned it with his classic spy-inspired flair:
“Your mission, should you choose to accept it: a weekend of action on the big screen.”

Cruise’s endorsement was met with praise, with fans applauding him for promoting another film in the same genre — something few stars do.
“No other star openly endorses OTHER movies like Tom Cruise. The man is truly someone who loves FILM,” one fan commented.

The Ballerina team was quick to respond as well. The film’s official Instagram replied, “Yeah, we’re thinking movies are back.”

Ana de Armas, 37, was thrilled by Cruise’s public support.
“It’s unbelievable,” she told Variety at the red-carpet premiere.
“But you know what, he supports every movie. He really wants the industry and cinema to go well and people going to the theaters. We’re working together, so he got to see Ballerina and he actually really liked it. He loved the John Wick films.”

The two stars have been spotted together several times in London since February, and according to de Armas, that’s no coincidence. She revealed during a May 15 appearance on Good Morning America that she and Cruise are collaborating on multiple projects, including ones with Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie.

Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, which opened on May 23, has already pulled in $77 million domestically and $190 million worldwide. Meanwhile, the Disney live-action Lilo & Stitch leads the summer race with $183 million in the U.S. and $341.7 million globally.

With Ballerina arriving this weekend, Cruise’s call to action may be just what the box office needs.
