June 5, 2025: Blumhouse Productions has confirmed that the Oscar-winning actress will reprise her eerie role in the sequel to Ma, the 2019 psychological horror film that sent chills down spines and raked in over $60 million globally.

In the original, Spencer played a seemingly friendly but deeply disturbed woman who lures teenagers into her home, only to reveal her terrifying motives. The film quickly became a cult favorite, thanks to its unsettling tone and Spencer’s unhinged yet captivating performance.

Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum announced the sequel at the studio’s Business of Fear symposium, where he praised the film’s lasting impact.
“Ma has proven to be a social phenomenon since its release in 2019, with fans eagerly embracing the film and Octavia’s iconic performance,” said Blum. “We’re thrilled to have her back. And yes—don’t make her drink alone.”
The event also spotlighted a new research study conducted by Blumhouse, analyzing horror trends over the past 50 years. The report revealed a surge in horror productions dating back to the 1940s, with subgenres like Revenge, Survival, and Psychological Thriller continuing to captivate audiences.
As Spencer gears up to step back into the chilling world of Ma, horror lovers can expect another intense, spine-tingling ride.
