Who Is the Rising Star Playing Ron Weasley in HBO’s Harry Potter Adaptation? Here you Know

May 28, 2025: After an intense casting process involving over 30,000 young hopefuls, the search for the new Harry, Ron, and Hermione is officially over. Among the trio, Alastair Stout has been announced as the new Ron Weasley in HBO’s highly anticipated Harry Potter television series.

Before landing this career-defining role, Stout was virtually unknown, with his only credited performance being a role as the “son at dinner” in a commercial for Albert Bartlett potatoes, titled Roll on Jersey Royal Season, as reported by The Scotsman.

In J.K. Rowling’s iconic wizarding world, Ron Weasley is one of Harry Potter’s best friends—loyal, brave, and known for his red hair and warm-hearted family background. Originally portrayed by Rupert Grint in the films, the character is a central figure throughout all seven books.

Starring alongside Stout are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and 11-year-old Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The young trio will lead HBO’s multi-season reboot, which aims to offer a faithful, book-centric adaptation of Rowling’s novels.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner, who also serves as executive producer, praised the casting process:

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

She added a heartfelt note of gratitude to the many young actors who auditioned:

“It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

The Harry Potter television series is currently in development under the Max streaming platform (formerly HBO Max), with J.K. Rowling on board as an executive producer.
