Singer reportedly cites creative reasons, plans to focus on personal and classical music
January 28, 2026: Reports of Arijit Singh stepping away from playback singing triggered widespread discussion on Tuesday after posts attributed to his reportedly private X (formerly Twitter) account surfaced online. In the posts, the singer is said to have announced that he would no longer take on “new assignments” as a playback vocalist, stressing that the decision was taken after prolonged thought and was not impulsive. He reportedly thanked listeners for their support and described his playback career as a “wonderful journey.”
Explaining the reasons behind the move, Singh allegedly wrote that there was “not one but several reasons” for the decision, adding that creative boredom played a role. He reportedly said he tends to get restless artistically, which is why he constantly reimagines songs during live performances. While indicating a pause from playback singing, Singh is said to have clarified that he would continue making music and also complete previously committed projects scheduled for release this year.
According to the posts, Singh plans to focus on creating his own music and return to Indian classical roots. He also reportedly addressed fans, saying he views them not as “fans” but as listeners and extended family. Arijit Singh, who rose to prominence after Fame Gurukul and later became one of Bollywood’s most celebrated voices, has delivered multiple award-winning hits and was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2025 for his contribution to Indian music.
