Why Isn’t Raid 2 a ‘HIT’ Despite Earning ₹237 Cr?

June 5, 2025: Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 has stormed its way into the ₹237 crore club at the global box office, but in a twist that has fans and trade analysts scratching their heads, the crime thriller still hasn’t been declared a “hit.” Despite smashing past Gully Boy and closing in on Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan, the film remains on the edge of box office glory.

Profits, Praise… But No “Hit”?

Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid 2 has earned ₹175.03 crore net in India and ₹206.53 crore gross. Add to that ₹31 crore from overseas markets, and the worldwide total now stands at ₹237.53 crore.

But here’s the catch — the film was made on a hefty budget of ₹120 crore. For a Bollywood film to be labeled a “hit,” it typically needs to double its budget in net earnings, which puts Raid 2 about ₹65 crore short of the mark.

That means despite turning in a 45.8% return on investment, it’s still stuck in the “successful but not a hit” limbo.

Day 34: A Drop, But Still in the Fight

On its 34th day in theaters, Raid 2 collected an estimated ₹45 lakhs — down 25% from ₹60 lakhs the day before. With the arrival of Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 on June 6, and Bhool Chuk Maaf eating into showtimes, the survival of Raid 2 is now a matter of days.

Chasing Shah Rukh Khan

Despite the looming threat of screen cuts, Raid 2 has one more milestone within reach: Shah Rukh Khan’s 2012 romantic drama Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which grossed ₹241 crore worldwide. With just ₹3.46 crore to go, the Ajay Devgn-led crime saga might just edge past it before the weekend.

Final Verdict?

The clock is ticking, the competition is fierce, and the ₹65 crore gap feels just a little too far. But there’s no doubt that Raid 2 has already made its mark — critically, commercially, and in the hearts of the audience.
