John Oliver’s acceptance speech for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series was bleeped twice, sparking curiosity and social media buzz about the uncensored content.
September 15, 2025: During his acceptance speech at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, John Oliver was censored on live television after he jokingly swore at fellow comedian and host, Nate Bargatze.

According to reports from those in the audience and on social media, the bleeped-out part of his speech was: “F–k you Nate Bargatze, that is a lot of money for you, and you can add a f— to the swear jar as well.”
This comment was a response to a bit by Nate Bargatze, who had pledged to donate $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America but would deduct $1,000 for every second a winner’s speech went over the allotted 45-second time limit. Oliver’s quick, censored remarks were a playful jab at this rule.
