Why Julianne Hough Froze Her Eggs — and Has No Regrets

July 6, 2025: Julianne Hough was just 18 years old when she landed a life-changing role on Dancing with the Stars in 2007, arriving in Los Angeles with only $2,000 to her name. Now at 36, the dancer, actress, entrepreneur, and wellness advocate is looking back at her journey — and she wouldn’t change a thing.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t tell her anything,” Hough says about her younger self. “She got me here today.” Rather than offer advice to the past, Hough embraces every risk, mistake, and breakthrough. “They build character,” she says, crediting her setbacks and triumphs for the woman she’s become.

Hough exited DWTS in 2009 but returned in 2014 as a judge, holding that position until 2017. In the meantime, she made her mark in Hollywood with roles in Burlesque, Footloose, Rock of Ages, and Safe Haven, and wowed audiences as Sandy in Fox’s live Grease in 2016.

In 2018, she stepped into entrepreneurship with her fitness and dance platform KINRGY, a passion project turned wellness movement. “Being a founder is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do,” Hough says. “But when someone says, ‘What you created helped me connect with my body and confidence,’ that’s everything.”

Julianne Hough has also opened up about her health journey, including her diagnosis with endometriosis at age 19 or 20. “I wish back then I would’ve been told to freeze my eggs,” she says. Now, having undergone the procedure three times, she says it’s helped ease the “psychological fear” of the ticking biological clock.

“Along with endometriosis, I have other health implications that might make conceiving difficult,” she shares. “And after going through a divorce, I’m in a different phase of life.”

Still, she’s hopeful. “It’s never been about ‘I’m not ready.’ I think the time will be right when it’s right.”
