April 3, 2025: Universal Pictures wrapped up its CinemaCon presentation with an exciting first look at Wicked: For Good, the second part of Jon M. Chu’s highly anticipated adaptation of the Broadway musical. The film is set to release in theaters on November 21 and continues the story of the beloved characters from Wicked, following the journey of Galinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo).
During the presentation, Grande and Erivo joined Chu and producer Marc Platt on stage to introduce the trailer to the theater owners in attendance. Although the stars didn’t perform live, the audience was thrilled with the epic trailer that showcased new scenes from the film.
The trailer highlights a continuation of the bond between Galinda and Elphaba, showing Galinda warning Elphaba, “they’re coming for you.” We also see Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) and his men searching for Elphaba, along with a striking shot of Elphaba sending a defiant sky-writing message that reads, “OUR WIZARD LIES.”
Returning cast members for the second installment include Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Ethan Slater as Boq, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz. The film also boasts new additions and promises to deepen the thrilling fantasy world established in the first part.
Wicked: For Good has already wrapped production, with Jon M. Chu working on both parts of the adaptation simultaneously. The first installment, Wicked: Part One, earned a spectacular $747 million globally and garnered 10 Academy Award nominations, including two wins.
The film’s script was co-written by Winnie Holzman (who adapted the stage musical from Gregory Maguire’s novel) and Dana Fox. Stephen Schwartz, the songwriter behind the Broadway musical, serves as an executive producer, alongside Jared LeBoff and David Nicksay. Fans are eager for the next chapter of the epic musical fantasy to unfold on the big screen this November.
