July 6, 2025: Charlie Day is ready to trade Paddy’s Pub for a senior home — all in the name of love and laughs. The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, 49, recently shared that he’s eager to appear on A Man on the Inside, the hit Netflix comedy series starring his wife, Mary Elizabeth Ellis.

At the 20th anniversary celebration of Always Sunny in Los Angeles, Day told PEOPLE, “I would love to be on her show, but I know they just wrapped their second season. I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed for a third.”

Ellis, 46, plays Emily, daughter to Ted Danson’s quirky undercover detective, in a mystery-comedy about stolen jewels and senior sleuths. The series, created by Mike Schur, premiered in November 2024 and quickly earned a second season, set to air later this year.

Joking about how he’d fit in, Day teased, “I’ll do it. I could do sort of a limp — whatever they want. I’ll show up.”

More than just playful banter, Day beamed with pride over his wife’s growing acclaim. “I, of course, adore my wife, and she’s a fantastic actor. Everyone knows her from Sunny, but she’s been amazing in Licorice Pizza and now this,” he said.

Day also applauded her work with TV powerhouses. “Mike Schur is such a great showrunner. And working with Ted Danson and this year Mary Steenburgen — it’s just an incredible opportunity.”

Ellis and Charlie Day, who married in 2006 and share a son, Russell, famously play dysfunctional lovers on Sunny, where Ellis appears as the object of Charlie Kelly’s awkward affection. The real-life couple’s chemistry continues to shine — and maybe soon, so will their on-screen reunion in a new genre.
