Despite mixed results at the box office in recent years, Akshay Kumar returns with the biggest Housefull yet – can the franchise continue its winning streak?
May 31, 2025: New Delhi:
Fifteen years, four films, and one enduring franchise. Akshay Kumar returns this summer with Housefull 5, promising laughs, star power, and nostalgia. The big question: Will it fill cinema seats and cross the finish line as a box office winner?
Despite a string of flops, Akshay Kumar remains a crowd-puller with his signature charm and a promise of paisa-vasool entertainment. Housefull 5, set for release on June 6, arrives at a time when producers think twice before sending films to theatres – but Housefull has always been about big screens and bigger laughs.

A Look Back at the Franchise:
- Housefull (2010): Budget ₹30 crore, collection ₹124.5 crore.
- Housefull 2 (2012): Budget ₹60-64 crore, collection ₹186 crore.
- Housefull 3 (2016): Budget ₹100 crore, collection ₹195 crore.
- Housefull 4 (2019): Budget ₹150 crore, collection ₹280 crore.
The numbers tell a story of a franchise that has grown in size and ambition – and now, Housefull 5 arrives with a whopping ₹375 crore budget, making it the biggest installment yet.
Akshay Kumar’s Recent Box Office Run:
- Kesari Chapter 2 (2025): Earned ₹142 crore (budget ₹150 crore), falling short despite the historical drama’s high stakes.
- Sky Force (2025): Fared better, grossing ₹144-168 crore (budget ₹120 crore), giving Akshay a much-needed boost.
The Housefull 5 Hopes:
Trade analyst Komal Nahta believes the film has the ingredients to draw crowds. “The trailer looks good and it made me smile – that’s what a comedy should do,” he said to NDTV. Nahta also pointed to the huge ensemble cast as a major plus, noting that audiences enjoy seeing big names come together on screen.
A Franchise That Survives Controversy:
It’s worth remembering that Housefull 4 was rocked by MeToo allegations against Sajid Khan and Nana Patekar. Sajid was replaced as director, and Nana left the project. Yet, Nana Patekar returns in Housefull 5, highlighting Bollywood’s short memory when it comes to controversy.
So, Can It Deliver?
The big budget, Akshay Kumar’s mass appeal, and the proven success of the franchise bode well for Housefull 5. Despite recent setbacks, Akshay remains confident: “Mein mara nahi hoon, kahi gaya bhi nahi – kaam karta rahunga (I’m not dead, I’m not gone. I’ll keep working till my last breath),” he said at a press conference last year.
Housefull 5 aims to prove that statement true – and keep cinema halls packed this summer.
