The ‘Batman’ star may go head-to-head with Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s final installment of the Dune saga.

April 9, 2025: Robert Pattinson may soon find himself traversing the sands of Arrakis. The actor is reportedly in early talks to join the cast of Dune 3, the much-anticipated final installment of Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi trilogy. If confirmed, Pattinson will portray Scytale, a mysterious, shape-shifting antagonist who plots to overthrow Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet.

According to Deadline, Pattinson is the top choice to bring the complex villain from Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah to life. Scytale is a face-changing conspirator and a key figure in the Bene Tleilax—a secretive and sinister faction central to the third installment’s storyline.

Dune 3: What We Know So Far

Following the global success of Dune: Part Two, which raked in $1.2 billion worldwide and bagged 8 Oscars out of 15 nominations, production on Dune 3 has been greenlit by Legendary Pictures. The film will be based on Herbert’s 1969 novel, Dune: Messiah, and is expected to begin filming later this summer.

Director Denis Villeneuve has confirmed that Dune 3 will mark the end of his journey with the franchise. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Villeneuve explained:

“If I do a third one, which is currently in the writing stage, it’s not a continuation—it’s something new. It won’t feel like a trilogy but rather a standalone conclusion.”

Returning cast members include Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Chalamet, with Zendaya having recently confirmed her comeback despite scheduling constraints.

Robert Pattinson’s Busy Slate

If the deal goes through, Dune 3 will mark yet another high-profile project for Pattinson. He is currently working on Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey, and recently completed filming on A24’s The Drama, co-starring Zendaya. He also wrapped Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love alongside Jennifer Lawrence, which is expected to release later this year.

With Dune 3, Pattinson could be set to make one of the most dramatic villainous turns of his career—against a sci-fi backdrop as grand and gritty as it gets.
