Will Reeve Explains Why He’s Never Considered Playing ‘Superman’

February 22, 2025: Will Reeve, the youngest son of the late Christopher Reeve, who famously portrayed Superman in the 1970s and 1980s films, has shared why he never pursued the iconic role himself. In an interview on Live with Kelly and Mark, the 32-year-old ABC News correspondent discussed his cameo in the upcoming Superman reboot and explained his perspective on following in his father’s footsteps.

When co-host Kelly Ripa expressed surprise that DC Studios had never asked him to play Superman, Will revealed, “No, I’ve never gotten the ask.” He explained that from a young age, his parents—both accomplished performers—taught him that to succeed in entertainment, one must truly need the craft. “It has to be a core part of who you are,” Will said, adding that while he participated in school plays, acting was never his calling. He realized his true passion was journalism, which ultimately led him to his career.

Will’s father, Christopher Reeve, tragically passed away in 2004, and his mother, Dana Reeve, a singer and actress, died in 2006. Despite his family’s deep roots in the entertainment world, Will noted that acting never became his life’s driving force. Instead, he channeled his ambition into journalism, where he felt a stronger connection.

Though Will has never taken on the role of Superman, he did appear in the upcoming Superman movie, starring David Corenswet as the title character. Will’s cameo, however, is brief—just a single line in the film. He admitted that it was nerve-wracking: “I was terrified,” he said. “This was pure terror… there are extras that are moving on my cues and I’ve gotta nail this and I don’t know what I’m saying because I don’t have context.” Despite his nerves, Will’s cameo is something his father’s fans will likely appreciate. Director James Gunn assured him that fans would love the moment “because you’re Christopher Reeve’s son.”

When asked if he had ever considered pursuing acting, Will acknowledged that while his family has always supported various Superman projects, they don’t feel entitled to the role. “It would be nice if we did,” he joked.

Will’s family legacy in the Superman franchise lives on in the hearts of fans, even though he continues to make his own path as a journalist.
