“With A Heavy Heart..” : Kangana’s ‘Emergency’ Release Date Postponed Again

Kangana Ranaut has announced the postponement of her much-anticipated film Emergency, originally scheduled for release on September 6, 2024. The delay is due to pending certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Taking to social media platform X, Kangana expressed her disappointment, stating, “With a heavy heart I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed, we are still waiting for the certification from the censor board, new release date will be announced soon.”

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had earlier confirmed this news, posting about the film’s delay on Instagram. The biographical political thriller, in which Kangana portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, explores the Emergency period in India from 1975 to 1977. The film has faced controversies, including backlash from Sikh groups, who filed petitions leading to legal delays. The Madhya Pradesh High Court directed the CBFC to consider these representations, and the Bombay High Court subsequently refused to issue an order for certification. The CBFC has been given a deadline of September 18 to make a decision, with the next court hearing set for September 19.

Kangana addressed the controversies surrounding her and the film, stating on X that she has become a “favorite target” for speaking up on sensitive issues. She reflected on the criticism she faces for attempting to “awaken a sleeping nation,” emphasizing the importance of taking sides in matters of national significance.

Despite these obstacles, Emergency remains one of the most anticipated films, given its focus on a pivotal moment in Indian history and Kangana’s bold directorial approach.
