Pawan Kalyan reflects on the Hyderabad theatre stampede, emphasises responsibility, and praises Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s balanced response.
December 30, 2024: In the wake of the tragic Hyderabad Sandhya Theatre stampede incident during a screening of Allu Arjun’s blockbuster Pushpa 2, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has addressed the controversy surrounding Allu Arjun’s arrest. Refusing to directly blame the Telangana Police, Kalyan emphasized that law enforcement must act with public safety as a priority.
The Incident Overview:
The tragic event unfolded when Allu Arjun visited Sandhya Theatre for a screening of Pushpa 2. The star’s appearance caused massive chaos, resulting in a stampede that claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman, Revathi, and injured her son. Following the incident, Hyderabad Police arrested Allu Arjun, though he was granted bail shortly after.
Pawan Kalyan’s Perspective:
Speaking in Mangalagiri, Pawan Kalyan expressed his deep condolences for the victim’s family and highlighted the importance of timely action and responsibility from all stakeholders.

“The law is equal for all, and I do not blame the police in such incidents. They act with public safety in mind. That said, the theatre staff should have been more proactive in managing the crowd and coordinating with Allu Arjun’s team,” he said.
Kalyan also addressed the lack of a personal visit to the victim’s family by Allu Arjun immediately after the incident:
“It would have been better if someone had visited the victim’s family earlier on behalf of Allu Arjun. The absence of such a gesture has created unnecessary anger and resentment. Arjun, too, feels deeply about this loss, but this could have been handled with more sensitivity.”

Praise for Telangana CM Revanth Reddy:
Kalyan commended Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his balanced approach to the situation, stating:
“CM Revanth Reddy is a leader who has risen from humble beginnings. He managed the situation well without letting it spiral into unnecessary controversy. His cooperation with the film industry, including flexible ticket pricing, has allowed movies like Salaar and Pushpa 2 to achieve significant box office success.”
Collective Responsibility in Cinema:
Kalyan emphasized that cinema is a collaborative effort and said it would be unfair to place the entire responsibility of the incident on Allu Arjun. He mentioned that even his elder brother Chiranjeevi used to attend movie screenings while wearing a mask to avoid creating chaos.
“Cinema is not just about one person; it involves coordination from actors, staff, and organizers. Mistakes can happen, but it’s our duty to respond responsibly,” Kalyan added.
Government’s Assurance to the Film Industry:
Following the incident, a delegation from the Telugu film industry met CM Revanth Reddy to discuss the fallout. The CM assured them of the government’s support while reiterating that law and order remain non-negotiable priorities.
“The government supports the film industry wholeheartedly, but there will be no compromise on law and order. Rules will apply equally to everyone, regardless of status,” the CM reportedly said.
Public Opinion Remains Divided:
The tragic incident has sparked widespread debate. While some argue that Allu Arjun cannot be solely held responsible for crowd mismanagement, others believe celebrities must be more cautious during public appearances to prevent such mishaps.
As the dust settles, Pawan Kalyan’s measured response serves as a reminder of the need for responsibility, accountability, and sensitivity in handling such crises.
