“You Buried a Legacy”: Fans Fume as Sony TV Confirms ACP Pradyuman’s Death, Shivaji Satam Exits CID After 27 Years
April 6, 2025: In a moment that has left millions of fans heartbroken, Sony TV has officially confirmed the death of ACP Pradyuman, marking the end of Shivaji Satam’s iconic 27-year run as the face of the long-running crime series CID. The news, shared via a solemn Instagram tribute late Saturday night, reads: “In the loving memory of ACP Pradyuman… End of an era (1998–2025).”
While the latest CID episode showed the senior officer caught in a deadly explosion orchestrated by nemesis Barboza (played by Tigmanshu Dhulia), the actual moment of death was never shown, leaving fans hoping for a twist. However, Sony TV’s post all but confirmed the worst — and the internet exploded in outrage.
Social media was flooded with grief and anger. Fans criticized Sony TV for killing off not just the character, but a part of their childhood. One user lamented, “We were waiting for a plot twist, not a heartbreak. You didn’t need to end him like this. ACP Pradyuman was justice personified.”
Another post read, “It’s not RIP to ACP Pradyuman. It’s RIP to CID. You erased nostalgia with one episode.”

Several fans felt that if Shivaji Satam had indeed decided to step away, the makers could have given the character a heroic farewell — perhaps by solving one last case or finally catching his most elusive rival.
“He deserved a salute, a sunset, not an explosion. Letting him go off-screen like this is unfair to the fans and to the character’s legacy,” one user wrote.
In an interview with Bombay Times, Shivaji Satam confirmed he’s currently not shooting for CID but wasn’t officially informed about the character being killed off. “I’ve taken a break. I don’t know if the track is over. If it is, I’m okay. I’ve learned to take things in stride,” he said.
His statement only added to the mystery and fan theories that ACP Pradyuman might eventually return.
CID, created by BP Singh, has aired nearly 1600 episodes since 1998, becoming one of the most beloved detective dramas on Indian television. Satam’s portrayal of ACP Pradyuman became iconic, with his signature lines like “Daya, darwaza tod do!” entering pop culture lexicon.
The character symbolized intelligence, discipline, and justice, and was often considered India’s own version of Sherlock Holmes — just with more authority and a lot more heart.
Despite the apparent confirmation, some fans remain in denial. “He’s not dead. This is a setup. ACP will be back, you’ll see,” one fan insisted on X (formerly Twitter).
Whether this truly marks the end or just a temporary exit, one thing is clear: ACP Pradyuman was not just a character — he was an institution.
