‘You’re the Ones Who Made Them Hits!’: Sabrina Carpenter Hits Back At Sex Song Critics
June 13, 2025: Sabrina Carpenter has addressed the criticism aimed at her provocative performances and the controversial cover of her new album Man’s Best Friend in a candid new interview with Rolling Stone. The pop star, known for her viral hit Espresso, didn’t hold back when asked about the backlash.
The album cover, which features Sabrina in a suggestive, dog-like pose with a person gripping her by the hair, has drawn accusations of pandering to the male gaze. Online critics have called the imagery degrading and unnecessarily sexualized.
But Sabrina pushed back, calling out the irony in the criticism. She argued that her explicit themes are a direct reflection of what her audience consumes and elevates.

“It’s always so funny to me when people complain,” she told Rolling Stone. “They’re like, ‘All she does is sing about this.’ But those are the songs that you’ve made popular. Clearly, you love sex. You’re obsessed with it. It’s in my show.”
In the interview, the 25-year-old singer opened up about the challenges of being a young woman in the public eye, especially when it comes to expressing sexuality. She emphasized that her art is authentic and intentionally provocative — not a performance for others’ comfort.
Sabrina’s unapologetic stance signals a deeper message: artists, particularly women, shouldn’t be shamed for owning their narrative, especially when it mirrors the interests and reactions of their audience.
