Following a complaint by BSP leaders who found the video “derogatory,” Ghaziabad police have registered an FIR. The YouTuber issued a public apology, stating he had no intention of hurting sentiments.

August 22, 2025: Social media content creator Puneet Superstar, whose real name is Prakash Kumar, has landed in legal trouble after Ghaziabad police registered a case against him for a viral video in which he referred to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati as “mummy.”

The controversy erupted after Puneet, known for his bizarre and often-mocking videos, posted a clip on his Instagram account on August 19. In the video, he repeatedly addressed the BSP supremo as “mummy,” a term that drew immediate and sharp criticism from party workers. Mayawati is widely and respectfully referred to as ‘Behenji’ by her supporters, a title that symbolises affection and dignity.

Following the social media outrage, a formal police complaint was filed on Wednesday evening by BSP district president Narendra Mohit and other party leaders at the Shalimar Garden Police Station in Ghaziabad. The complainants alleged that the video was “deeply insulting and derogatory” and intended to disrupt social harmony.

DCP Nimish Patil confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Puneet Superstar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which has replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the IT Act. “The video had gone viral and hurt the sentiments of the Bahujan community. We are investigating the matter,” the officer said.

A day after the complaint was filed, the YouTuber, who boasts over 10.8 crore followers on Instagram, issued a public apology. In a video posted on his account, he stated with folded hands, “My intention was not to hurt anyone’s sentiments, but if it has…I seek their forgiveness and vow not to repeat it.”

This is not the first time Puneet has courted controversy with his political comments; he had previously referred to Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav as “papa” in a different video. Police confirmed that while a case has been registered, it is a bailable offense and the investigation is ongoing.
