Despite its star-studded cast and massive hype, the Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR action-thriller has allegedly struggled to meet expectations in Telugu-speaking markets, leading to a reported ₹22 crore compensation package from the producers.

August 22, 2025: War 2, an action-thriller with Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, hasn’t done as well at the box office as expected, especially in places where Telugu is spoken. Yash Raj Films (YRF) has stepped in to aid by donating a lot of money to distributors.

Great Andhra says that producer Naga Vamsi and his team spent an amazing ₹80 crore to make the movie available in Telugu. But in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the movie did a lot worse than expected. People argue that bad reviews and trolling on the internet hurt ticket sales from the start.

People who work for the company think that YRF has promised to set up a structured pay program to make up for the huge losses. They say they will get back ₹22 crore. It has been said that the package will be split into three parts: ₹10 crore will go to the Nizam area, ₹7 crore will go to Andhra, and ₹5 crore will go to Ceded.

The movie hasn’t done well at the box office since it has to compete with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which is faster than it starts. The Telugu version “underwhelmed” since it made a lot less money at the box office after the first weekend.

People on the internet were saying that Naga Vamsi will leave the movie distribution business because of these money problems. The distributor, on the other hand, used X (now Twitter) to deny the rumors in a tweet that was hard to interpret. In a letter to his supporters, he said he would be with the company for at least 10 to 15 more years. “Sorry to let everyone down, but that time has not yet come,” the statement said.

Experts say that neither YRF nor Naga Vamsi have publicly mentioned anything about the payment, but they think the move is meant to protect long-term relationships with distribution partners. People think that War 2 cost ₹300–400 crore to make, and it is also having trouble meeting all of its global box office goals. This shows how much this movie means to a lot of people.
