Singer’s death near Lazarus Island declared tragic accident after detailed probe
March 25, 2026: A Singapore court has ruled that Indian singer Zubeen Garg died due to an accidental drowning, with no evidence of foul play. State Coroner Adam Nakhoda upheld the findings of the Singapore Police Coast Guard, stating that the investigation was thorough and confirmed that no one forced or pushed the singer into the water. The incident occurred near Lazarus Island in September 2025.
The court noted that Garg had been intoxicated at the time, which likely impaired his judgment. Despite warnings, he removed his life jacket during his first swim and refused to wear one again before entering the water a second time. Witnesses confirmed he had consumed alcohol before the incident. During his second swim, he reportedly went limp while returning to the yacht and was later declared dead at a hospital. An autopsy confirmed drowning as the cause of death.
While the coroner acknowledged the possibility of a medical episode, including his history of epilepsy, there was insufficient evidence to confirm it as a factor. The court also dismissed concerns raised by the family, stating Garg had voluntarily entered the water and that those present tried to assist him. No criminal charges have been filed, with authorities concluding that the tragedy was an unfortunate accident.
