Rishabh Pant recently discussed Suryakumar Yadav’s game-changing catch in the ICC T20 World Cup final against South Africa, attributing the moment to the fervent prayers of Indian fans longing for an ICC trophy after 11 years.
The victory, marked by Pant’s crucial contributions and stellar performances from Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah, ended India’s long wait for an ICC title, culminating in a thrilling seven-run win on June 29.
In a conversation on comedian Tanmay Bhat’s YouTube channel, Pant shared that as the ball soared through the air, it seemed destined for a six, but ultimately, it stayed in play due to the passionate prayers of supporters. He reminisced about his aspirations of winning the World Cup during his recovery from a life-threatening car accident in December 2022, emphasizing the importance of moving forward despite the monumental victory.
Pant, who excelled as the third-highest run-scorer for India during the tournament, expressed his focus on upcoming matches, including the first Test against Bangladesh starting September 19 and the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia in November. He also reflected on his relationship with former coach Ravi Shastri, praising the freedom he provided and sharing anecdotes about his unique batting techniques, like playing reverse sweeps against off-spinners.
As he prepares for the upcoming Test series, Pant is poised to continue making significant contributions for India on the field. The Indian squad for the first Test against Bangladesh includes prominent players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, highlighting a strong lineup aiming for success in the matches ahead.
