Exploring London: The Best Transportation Options for Tourists

London is a megapolis that also happens to be a dream destination for vacationers.

There are a number of ways to get about in London. You can take the double decker, book a hop-on hop off, travel via cabs and uber, rent a car or a cycle or take the tube.

Of all of these options the tube is the most economical and super easy.

If you are smart and have an Oyster’s card, you get maximum bang for your buck, but the others, can buy a full day pass that allows you to use many of the above mentioned modes of transport.

Walking from one nearby destination to the other is also extremely convenient, owning to the fine weather.

Cycling paths and convenient walking spaces are very popular in London and you will see scores of people cycling and walking to their destinations.

London has a very robust and well developed Rail network throughout the city and beyond and so it is important to Understand the rail network- Overground, underground & National Rail lines.

The Tube” refers to the London Underground that services most of the city, “The Overground” is the rail network that serves Greater London, and “The National Rail” is the train service that connects London to other parts of the UK.

The”TfL Rail”, “DLR”, and “Tram” are smaller, more specific networks that service certain neighbourhoods.

For travel within London & greater London you will ideally have to take either an overground or an underground also referred to the tube.

The tube has many stations and lines underground, though in many places you will also see the tube over the surface.

On the other hand the overground runs only on the surface.

To travel within Central London you will usually board a tube, whereas you are likely to board an overground while traveling to the suburbs. For example, if you want to take the Harry Potter tour you will take the over-ground.

There are two sections of line where Underground trains and Overground trains share tracks – between Gunnersbury and Richmond, and between Queens Park and Harrow & Wealdstone. That means these are the only places you can change from the tube to the overground. If you are travelling to London, remember, this is an important piece of information.
While traveling to areas outside London you will use the National rail.
