November 3, 2024: Rohit Bal, one of India’s most celebrated fashion designers, was cremated in Delhi on Saturday, following his untimely demise on Friday due to a heart attack. Bal, aged 63, leaves behind a legacy of pioneering designs that seamlessly blended traditional Indian aesthetics with modern fashion sensibilities.

The cremation took place at Lodhi Road Crematorium, where a somber crowd gathered to pay their final respects. Esteemed members of the fashion fraternity, including designers Rohit Gandhi and Varun Bahl, along with actor and model Arjun Rampal, attended the funeral to bid a heartfelt farewell. Former Union Minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani also paid homage, reflecting Bal’s widespread influence beyond the world of fashion.
In remembrance, a prayer meeting will be held on Monday, November 4, at 4 pm at Sai International Centre in New Delhi.
News of Bal’s passing sparked an outpouring of tributes across social media, with members of the fashion community mourning the loss of “Gudda”—the affectionate nickname by which he was known. A native of Kashmir, Bal was renowned for his vibrant, opulent designs and enjoyed a star-studded clientele, dressing Bollywood icons as well as international celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell.
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), of which Bal was a founding member, shared their condolences on Instagram. “We mourn the passing of legendary designer Rohit Bal. Known for his unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities, Bal’s work redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations,” read the statement. “His legacy of artistry, innovation, and forward-thinking will live on in the fashion world. Rest in peace, GUDDA.”
