Former ‘Australia’s Next Top Model’, Runner-Up, Lucy Markovic, Dies at 27

The model, who worked with fashion giants like Versace and Victoria Beckham, passed away weeks after revealing her battle with a rare brain condition.

April 11, 2025: Melbourne, April 11:
Lucy Markovic, best known for finishing as runner-up on Australia’s Next Top Model in 2015, has died at the age of 27, her family confirmed on Instagram. The rising fashion star passed away peacefully on Thursday, surrounded by loved ones, following surgery for a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) — a rare and serious condition she had battled for four years.

Markovic had recently posted about the “golf-ball-sized” AVM in her brain, sharing a hospital photo and scan with fans just three weeks ago. “Life’s a journey and I’m ready for the next chapter,” she wrote in the emotional caption.

From Reality TV to High Fashion

Lucy was just a teenager when she captured the nation’s attention as a finalist in the ninth season of Australia’s Next Top Model, eventually finishing second to Brittany Beattie. But her modeling career soared far beyond reality TV.

She went on to walk the runway for global luxury brands like Versace, Victoria Beckham, Givenchy, Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana, and Bulgari, and graced the pages of Vogue, Marie Claire, and other leading fashion magazines.

Her agency, Elite Model Management, paid tribute with a heartfelt statement:

“She brought elegance, strength, and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought herself — her warmth, her laughter, her light. Modelling was one of Lucy’s dreams, and we are deeply honoured to have been part of that journey.”

A Lasting Legacy in Fashion and Courage

Markovic’s candid social media posts about her condition shed light on the rare neurological disorder. She revealed how AVM had caused her seizures and emotional stress, but also spoke with optimism and grace about the challenges she faced.

Fans and fashion insiders alike are mourning the loss of a model who wasn’t just a face on the cover — she was a source of strength, courage, and authenticity.
