October 15, 2024: The beloved 1989 television series Fauji, which first catapulted Shah Rukh Khan to fame, is making a highly anticipated return to Indian TV screens with its modern reimagining, Fauji 2.
Filmmaker Sandeep Singh has partnered with national broadcaster Doordarshan to revive this iconic show for a new generation of viewers, with the promise of a fresh and exciting take on the military drama.
Sandeep Singh expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating in a press release, “We are bringing back one of the greatest shows ever seen on television but in a new and exciting version.”
He hopes Fauji 2 will resonate with audiences, particularly the youth, much like the original series did decades ago. He also acknowledged the show’s legacy, as the original Fauji not only gave India Shah Rukh Khan but also captivated the nation with its portrayal of life in the Indian Army.
Fauji 2 introduces Bigg Boss 17 fame Vikas Jain as Colonel Sanjay Singh and Gauahar Khan as Lieutenant Colonel Simarjeet Kaur, a weapons specialist and cadet trainer. The reboot will feature a mix of new talent, with 12 actors from various regions of India portraying cadets in the series. This diverse cast includes names like Aashish Bhardwaj, Utkarsh Kohli, Rudra Soni, and more, each bringing a fresh energy to the ensemble.
The series will retain the emotional depth and cultural richness of the original, with a focus on the bonds shared by army personnel from different backgrounds. Sandeep Singh emphasized the unique storytelling approach, crafted over six months to ensure a gripping and heartfelt narrative. Fauji 2 aims to offer a deeper look at the lives of soldiers, celebrating their courage, unity, and commitment to safeguarding the nation.
Adding to the appeal of the show, renowned singer Sonu Nigam has lent his voice to the title track, while the series will feature 11 songs composed by Filmfare Award-winning Shreyas Puranik, along with contributions from Shashi Suman and Jazim Sharma.
Fauji 2 will air on Doordarshan in multiple languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Bengali—making it accessible to audiences across India. The show’s exact release date has yet to be announced, but it is already generating immense excitement as it promises to bring the valor and drama of Fauji back to television.
Produced by Sandeep Singh, with Vicky Jain and Zafar Mehdi as co-producers, the series marks the directorial debut of Abhinav Pareek. Doordarshan officials, including Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal and CEO Gaurav Dwivedi, have expressed their excitement about bringing back this classic with a contemporary twist.
