Mahakumbh 2025 Kicks Off: 1.5 Crore Devotees Take Holy Dip on Day 1

January 13, 2025: Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh:
The Mahakumbh Mela 2025, celebrated as the world's largest spiritual gathering, commenced on Monday with an overwhelming 1.5 crore devotees taking a holy dip at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.

The auspicious occasion of Paush Purnima marked the beginning of the 45-day mega event, which is expected to attract over 40 crore pilgrims from across the globe.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the event, expressing his gratitude to the devotees for their unwavering faith. “This sacred festival reflects the spiritual and cultural unity of our nation. Day one has already seen over 1.5 crore ‘Sanatanis’ taking a holy dip,” he said.

  • Uma Bharti Praises Arrangements:
    Former Union Minister Uma Bharti lauded the state administration for its meticulous arrangements, calling them the best she has witnessed since 1977. “The facilities, security, and polite behavior of the administration make this event extraordinary. Congratulations to CM Yogi Adityanath for a successful start,” she wrote on X.
  • RCPL's Seva Initiatives:
    Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL) has partnered with the Mahakumbh to enhance the pilgrims' experience. The company announced a series of initiatives promoting “seva and care” during the event.
  • International Participation:
    US-based spiritual leader Sadhvi Bhagwati encouraged global participation, describing the Mahakumbh as a divine opportunity to connect with one's inner self.
  • Special Facilities Introduced:
    The India Meteorological Department launched a dedicated webpage offering real-time weather updates, while the Karnataka Milk Federation partnered with Chai Point to serve over 1 crore cups of tea, aiming for a Guinness World Record.
  • Cutouts of Leaders:
    Selfies with life-size cutouts of PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath were a hit among the crowd, adding a unique touch to the festive spirit.

Upcoming Highlights:

The Mahakumbh is expected to witness an even larger turnout on Makar Sankranti, with over ₹7,000 crore spent on infrastructure development to ensure smooth operations. Temporary hospitals, tea stalls, and multilingual signboards are just a few of the facilities provided to enhance the pilgrims' experience.
