The producers of the 2023 Malayalam film RDX: Robert Dony Xavier, Sophia Paul and James Paul, are facing legal trouble as an FIR has been filed against them for alleged embezzlement and failure to disburse profits. The case has been registered by the Tripunithura Police in Ernakulam at Hill Palace Police Station under sections 120-B, 406, 420, 468, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
RDX, directed by Nahas Hidayath and released on August 25, 2023, stars Antony Varghese, Shane Nigam, and Neeraj Madhav in lead roles. The film, which gained significant attention upon its release, is now under scrutiny due to the serious allegations brought forward by Anjana Abraham, a resident of Tripunithura.
Anjana Abraham has alleged that the producers, Sophia Paul and James Paul, failed to distribute the promised profit margins to stakeholders involved in the film’s production. According to Anjana, she invested Rs 6 crore in the film after being assured of a full return on investment along with a 30 percent share of the total profits.
However, despite several requests, Anjana claims she has only received her initial investment and none of the promised profits. This has led to her filing the complaint, which has now escalated into a full-fledged legal case against the producers.
The sections under which the FIR has been filed, including 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC, indicate the seriousness of the charges against the producers.
As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge regarding the alleged financial discrepancies surrounding the production of RDX. This case has brought significant attention to the handling of profits in the film industry, highlighting the importance of transparency and trust in production agreements.
