“Good Score, Felt We Were In The hunt..” : Travis Head After Series Lose To England

Australia’s stand-in captain Travis Head admitted that introducing Matthew Short earlier into the bowling attack could have changed the outcome of the second T20I against England, where Australia narrowly missed sealing the series.

Despite posting a formidable total of 193/6, Australia succumbed to a three-wicket defeat, primarily due to an explosive partnership between England’s Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell.

Short, with his spin bowling, was a standout performer, taking a remarkable five-wicket haul (5/22) and nearly pulling Australia back into contention. Head, reflecting on the match, acknowledged that bringing Short into the attack earlier could have been a game-changer.

“We were pretty close, but it was a good innings. Should have bowled him earlier. We know what he’s got to offer,” Head commented during the post-match presentation.

A positive for Australia was Jake Fraser-McGurk‘s return to form. Batting at number three, Fraser-McGurk hit a solid 50 off 31 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, providing momentum to Australia’s innings. Head praised his performance, saying, “Nice for him (Fraser-McGurk) to get into the series. We didn’t get the win, but that’s okay.”

However, Australia couldn’t contain Livingstone, who was in sublime form, smashing an 87 off 47 balls at a strike rate of 185.11, featuring six fours and five sixes. Livingstone’s power-hitting proved too much for Australia’s inexperienced bowling attack, even though Short managed to dismiss him just one run short of victory.

Despite the loss, Head remained positive about Short’s contribution and looked forward to adjusting their strategy for the next game in the series.
