Haryana Decides To Regularise 303 Unauthorised Colonies; CM Khattar Says Remaining Such Colonies To Be Authorised By January 2024

Chandigarh (Haryana) [India]: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced the regularisation of 303 unauthorised colonies across the 14 districts of the state and said that the remaining “such” colonies will be regularised before January 2024.

Of the 303 unauthorised colonies that were regularised today, 193 fall under the jurisdiction of the urban local bodies (ULB) department, while the remaining 110 colonies are in the jurisdiction of department of town and country planning (DTCP).

Addressing a press briefing, here, the state Chief Minister said, “From 2014 to 2022, we had regularised 685 colonies of the urban local bodies…On August 17, we made our first announcement, in which there were 211 colonies from the municipality and 238 from town and country planning. In that series, I am making the next announcements for 193 colonies from urban local bodies and 110 colonies from town and country planning.”

“I would like to congratulate the people of these colonies. I would also like to congratulate Urban Local Bodies Minister Kamal Gupta, under whom the work is going on,” Khattar said.
He said that, after today’s announcement, still 1,507 colonies remain to be regularised and that the government is committed to the regularisation of such colonies before January 2024.

“There are still 1,507 colonies remaining, out of which 936 are from urban areas and 571 are from the controlled areas. These 1,507 more colonies will be regularised by January 31, 2024,” the Chief Minister said.

He said that the Haryana government will ensure that no new colony is set up in future and that ‘strict provision’ or demolition will be followed if rules are violated.
“(The government will ensure that) after this no new colonies are set up. For that we have also taken many stringent provisions. If someone builds new colonies, they will also be demolished,” he added.

Chief Minister Khattar said that in order to control the establishment of new unauthorised colonies, the state government is giving ‘flat or plot’ options to the people belonging to economically weaker section (EWS) under the Mukhyamantri Shehri Awas Yojana.

The portal Mukhyamantri Shehri Awas Yojana, was launched last month to ensure houses for the economically weaker section (EWS). It allows people to choose between flat or plot options. The families with an annual income of Rs 1.8 lakh or less who do not possess homes are eligible to apply on this portal.

During the press briefing, Khattar said that till now 2 lakh people have applied on the portal
