Heavy Rains Lash Himachal Pradesh – IMD Predicts Continued Rainfall

Amid an orange alert in Himachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Wednesday that light to moderate rainfall is likely to persist in the state.

“Light to moderate rainfall is very likely to continue at many places in the districts of Kangra, Sirmaur, Shimla, Solan, and Mandi, at few places in the districts of Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, Kullu, and Chamba with isolated spells of intense rainfall during the next 2 to 3 hours,” IMD Himachal Pradesh stated.

Shimla, a popular hill resort, is currently experiencing heavy rainfall amid the orange warning from the IMD for the next two days. The incessant downpour has significantly affected daily life, posing challenges for both residents and visitors.

The cloudburst and flash floods on August 1 have severely impacted the districts of Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla. According to data from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 85 roads, including two National Highways (NH), have been closed due to landslides and excessive rain. Additionally, 116 electricity supply schemes and 65 water supply schemes have been disrupted across the state.

In a significant incident, a catastrophic cloudburst occurred in the Lahaul and Spiti districts on August 1. As the rain continues to batter Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh, authorities have urged residents and tourists to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather advisories.
