Hyderabad (Telangana), December 22: Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has publicly addressed the Sandhya Theatre tragedy controversy and appealed to his fans to express their emotions responsibly, urging them to avoid abusive language and behavior both online and offline.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Arjun shared a heartfelt message:
“I appeal to all my fans to express their feelings responsibly, as always, and not resort to any kind of abusive language or behavior both online and offline. If someone misrepresents themselves as my fan using fake IDs and indulges in abusive posts, strong action will be taken against them. I request my fans to avoid engaging with such posts.”
On December 4, during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre, a stampede-like situation broke out when Allu Arjun greeted fans from his car’s sunroof. The chaotic scene tragically led to the death of a woman named Revathi and left her child injured.
At a press conference on Saturday evening, Allu Arjun addressed the accusations made against him by political leaders regarding his role in the incident.
“It is a very unfortunate incident. It was completely an accident, and my condolences go to the family. I’m monitoring the child’s condition regularly, and I’m relieved to know he is improving,” Arjun said.
He dismissed allegations of irresponsibility, stating, “There’s a lot of misinformation and character assassination happening. I refuse to blame any department, political leader, or government. For the past 20 years, you’ve seen me—would I ever behave irresponsibly in such a manner?”
Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy revealed in the State Assembly that police had denied permission for an event at Sandhya Theatre, citing safety concerns due to limited entry and exit points.
Reddy accused Arjun of ignoring these warnings and conducting a roadshow from his car’s roof, escalating crowd chaos. “Despite repeated warnings, he initially refused to leave the premises even after police intervention,” Reddy said.
AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi also criticized Arjun, alleging “irresponsible behavior” during the premiere that contributed to the tragedy.
Arjun expressed deep remorse over the incident:
“For the past 15 days, I’ve isolated myself, reflecting on the tragedy. I worked hard on Pushpa 2 for three years, but I haven’t even watched it in a theatre yet. This incident has weighed heavily on me, and I deeply apologize for the tragedy.”
Despite the controversy, Allu Arjun’s latest film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, directed by Sukumar and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil, continues to dominate the box office with record-breaking numbers.
The tragedy remains a stark reminder of the importance of crowd safety measures at large public events, even as investigations continue into the causes of the incident.
