January 2, 2025: Filmmaker Boney Kapoor has come forward to defend Allu Arjun amidst ongoing legal troubles following the Sandhya Theatre stampede incident during the Pushpa 2: The Rule premiere. Addressing the controversy during the Galatta Plus roundtable discussion, Kapoor said the actor was unfairly blamed for the unfortunate event.
Reflecting on the massive fan following South Indian stars command, Boney Kapoor shared his observations, recalling events where thousands of fans gathered at theatres for stars like Ajith, Rajinikanth, and Chiranjeevi.
Kapoor stated, “The crowd frenzy during such releases is not new, and it’s unfair to hold Allu Arjun responsible for the mishap. Ticket prices often surge during these high-demand shows, and it’s this crowd pressure that led to the tragedy, not Arjun’s presence.”
On December 4, during a special premiere show of Pushpa 2 at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, a stampede-like situation arose due to overcrowding and mismanagement. The event tragically resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman.

Authorities allege that Allu Arjun’s appearance caused the surge in crowds, despite claims that the star had no prior notice of restrictions. Arjun was arrested on charges of culpable homicide but was later released on interim bail granted by the Telangana High Court. The case remains under investigation.
Directed by Sukumar, the blockbuster stars Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil. The film, a sequel to the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise, has earned ₹1,760 crore worldwide, becoming the third-highest-grossing Indian film ever.
