Intimate Wedding Ceremony on Valentine’s Day Amid Family Absence
February 15, 2025: Mumbai: Actor Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee tied the knot in a deeply personal and intimate ceremony on Valentine’s Day, choosing to celebrate their love in the Bandra home that Prateik’s late mother, Smita Patil, had purchased. The wedding, a ‘ghar ki shaadi’ (home wedding), was a tribute to the legendary actress, marking an emotional milestone for Prateik.

Despite the joyous occasion, the absence of the Babbar family, including Prateik’s father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and half-siblings Aarya Babbar and Juhi Babbar, raised eyebrows.

📌 Prateik on Honoring His Mother’s Memory
Speaking to Vogue India, Prateik shared the sentimental significance of the venue:
“We desired a ‘ghar ki shaadi,’ and getting married to the love of my life here — the first house that my mom bought and my home — was the best way to honour her in spirit.”
✔ The wedding celebrations were private, attended only by close family and friends.
✔ Pre-wedding rituals such as haldi and mehendi were followed by a traditional ceremony.
✔ Emotional moments were captured in Priya’s Instagram Stories, including Prateik getting teary-eyed upon seeing his bride and their romantic dance to Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’.
📌 Babbar Family Not Invited
Despite the significance of the occasion, Prateik did not extend an invitation to his father Raj Babbar or his half-siblings. This led to Aarya Babbar expressing surprise over the exclusion.
In an interview with ETimes, Aarya said:
“Nobody from the Babbar family was invited—not even my father.”

“I presume someone has overpowered his brain too much. He is not wanting to connect with anyone from this side of the family.”
✔ While Aarya understood why Prateik may have excluded his stepmother, Nadira Babbar, he felt their father deserved an invitation.

Prateik Babbar has long been vocal about his complicated relationship with the Babbar family. Born to Raj Babbar and Smita Patil, his mother passed away due to childbirth complications just days after his birth in 1986. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, while Raj Babbar later reconciled with his first wife, Nadira Babbar, and raised their children, Aarya and Juhi Babbar.
