December 16, 2024: The passing of legendary tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain has left the entertainment and music world in mourning. Bollywood stars and musicians, including Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Bhumi Pednekar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Grammy-winner Ricky Kej, paid emotional tributes to the music icon, remembering his artistry, humility, and lasting influence.

Celebrities Share Heartfelt Posts

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kareena Kapoor shared a nostalgic photo featuring herself, Zakir Hussain, and her father Randhir Kapoor. In the image, Zakir and Randhir are seen shaking hands with warm smiles. Kareena captioned it, “Maestro forever” with red heart emojis.

Ranveer Singh honoured the late musician by posting a black-and-white picture of Zakir playing the tabla, writing, “(red heart, nazar amulet, and folded hands emojis) #Maestro #UstadZakirHussain.”

Bhumi Pednekar also paid her respects by posting an old photo of Zakir, captioning it: “His rhythm will echo in our hearts forever” with heartbroken and folded hands emojis.

Music and Film Industry Pay Tribute

Renowned drummer Nate Smith thanked Zakir Hussain for “all the music you gave us,” while actress Renuka Shahane shared, “Legend, icon, maestro, wizard, genius… one falls short of words to describe such immense talent. What a loss to the world of music.”

Shweta Tiwari echoed similar sentiments, saying, “We lost our legend today. Very sad news.”

Ricky Kej and Riteish Deshmukh Remember Zakir’s Legacy

Grammy-winning musician Ricky Kej reflected on Zakir Hussain’s invaluable contributions to music and his unmatched generosity. Writing on X, Kej said: “One of the greatest musicians and personalities India has ever produced. Along with being the best himself, Zakirji encouraged the entire music community through collaborations and actions. He was a treasure trove of skill and knowledge. His legacy will live on forever.”

Actor Riteish Deshmukh shared a moving note, calling Zakir Hussain’s death an “irreparable loss” to India and the global music community. Posting a throwback picture, Riteish wrote: “Your music was a gift, a treasure that will continue to inspire generations to come. May your soul rest in eternal glory, surrounded by rhythms and melodies.”

A Life Dedicated to Music

Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 in a hospital in San Francisco due to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The tabla virtuoso, son of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha, had been hospitalized for two weeks before his condition worsened.

Zakir leaves behind his wife Antonia Minnecola and daughters Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi, as well as a profound musical legacy that touched millions. Known as the greatest tabla player of his generation, Zakir’s rhythms and artistry will continue to inspire musicians and fans worldwide.

The family’s statement captured his immense contribution: “He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come.”
