Despite a ₹130 Crore Budget, Lead Actors Opt for Controlled Salaries to Prioritize Film’s Production

Vicky Kaushal’s much-anticipated period drama Chhaava has made waves ahead of its theatrical release on February 14. The film, which boasts a massive ₹130 crore budget, has reportedly allocated only 13-14% of it for the lead cast’s salaries, ensuring that most of the budget goes into production value, sets, and cinematography.
Vicky Kaushal Takes 7% of Chhaava’s Budget
According to a report by DNA, Vicky Kaushal has charged ₹10 crore to portray Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. This accounts for nearly 7% of the film’s entire budget, the same amount he was paid for his last biopic, Sam Bahadur.
Despite his rising stardom, Vicky has opted to keep his remuneration controlled, allowing more funds to be allocated to the film’s production scale.
Rashmika Mandanna’s Remuneration
Fresh off the blockbuster success of Animal, Rashmika Mandanna has not increased her fee for Chhaava. She has charged ₹4 crore, the same amount she received for Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film.
Akshaye Khanna’s Salary – Paid 5 Times Less Than Vicky Kaushal
Akshaye Khanna, who plays the primary antagonist, Aurangzeb, has taken a pay cut from his last film, Drishyam 2. While he was paid ₹2.5 crore for his role in Drishyam 2, he is reportedly receiving ₹2 crore for his performance in Chhaava.
Interestingly, in Drishyam 2, Ajay Devgn was paid 12 times more than Akshaye, while in Chhaava, Vicky Kaushal is earning 5 times more than him.
