Satya is considered one of Hindi cinema’s defining films, but Varma confessed that the film’s success blinded him to its essence. In a long post on X, he revealed that the honesty and integrity of Satya were absent in many of his subsequent films, which he criticized for their “gimmickry” and lack of substance. “I lost my vision… forgetting a simple truth that technique can elevate content but not carry it,” he wrote.

The 62-year-old filmmaker revealed that he cried while revisiting the cult classic ahead of its re-release.
