“The actress defends sharing a GoFundMe for her family after they lost everything in the devastating Eaton Fire.”

January 12, 2025: Mandy Moore, known for her role in This Is Us, did not hold back as she responded to critics questioning her decision to share a fundraiser for her family members affected by the devastating Eaton Fire in Los Angeles. On Thursday, the 40-year-old actress took to Instagram to share a heartfelt plea for support, explaining that her brother-in-law Griff and sister-in-law Kit lost their home and all belongings just weeks before welcoming their first child.

“Yesterday, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law Griff & Kit lost their home and everything they own in the Eaton Fire,” Moore wrote. “With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever.”

A Family in Need

Moore explained the dire situation, revealing that Griff, a touring musician, also lost his entire collection of drums and percussion instruments essential to his livelihood. “It’s all so much,” she said, urging her followers to donate and share the GoFundMe campaign created by a family friend. “So many have asked how to help during this unimaginable and stressful time… Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild,” she added, providing a link in her bio.

A Message for Critics

However, Moore also took the opportunity to address the backlash she received for promoting the fundraiser. “To people questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has—it’s NOT helpful or empathetic,” she said.

The Candy singer clarified that the fundraiser was initiated by a friend and that her family was, of course, providing direct support. “We just lost most of our life in a fire too,” Moore added, referencing her own narrow escape from the Altadena Fire earlier this month, where she fled with her children and pets.

The actress concluded with a blunt message for the critics: “Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”

A Community in Crisis

The Eaton Fire is part of a series of devastating wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles, leaving thousands displaced and claiming lives. Many celebrities, including Moore, have been personally affected by the fires, with homes and belongings reduced to ashes.

Despite the criticism, Moore’s efforts to help her family reflect the unity and resilience of those impacted. “Praying for everyone in our beautiful city. So gutted for the destruction and loss,” Moore said earlier about the crisis.
